Tims Ford Lake Area
Ultimate Guide
Tims Ford Lake is a Beautiful Lake in South Central Tennessee
In 1966, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) began the work to dam the Elk River.
In 1971, the lake had filled, and Tims Ford Lake was finally formed,
creating 16 square miles of water that is 30 miles long, with 250 miles of shoreline.
The lake borders five different zip codes, Lynchburg Winchester, Tullahoma, Decherd, and Estill Springs. Tims Ford Lake level lowers approximately 15 feet each year during the winter to better handle the strong rains we receive, raising back up to "summer pool" during the warmer months. We'll see the water temperatures peak in the high 80's in July. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the variety of recreation that Tims Ford Lake offers from fishing, boating, swimming, camping, hiking and more. There are many bald eagles around the lake which are always enjoyable to see, as well as a variety of other animals. Due to the low light pollution, your view of the stars at night is incredible.
