Things to do in the Tims Ford Lake Area

Winchester TN is a town of approximately 10,000 people with a beautiful town square with the Franklin County seat courthouse at the center.  It is surrounded by historic buildings around the perimeter housing stores and restaurants.  

Things to Do in Winchester TN on the Water

• Picnic:  Find a short hike on one of the many Tims Ford Lake hiking trails or trails in the surrounding areas, and bring a picnic basket to enjoy the beautiful Tims Ford Lake.

• Rent a boat or Kayak:  and go boating, tubing, or find a secluded spot to float in the water.  Take a boat or kayak to Pennington Cave on Tims Ford Lake.
  
  
  
• Fishing:  There are countless fishing spots both from the side of the lake as well as from a boat.  You can also get a fishing guide if you plan in advance -- talk with the Winchester Bass Club.

Things To Do in Winchester TN - Winchester Restaurants

There are 37 restaurants in Winchester with each having its own unique vibe.  Some have been around for a while and have a big following while others are newer.  Most restaurants are owned by Winchester TN residents which is part of the town and its specialness.

If you visit the square and walk around, you'll see a handful of interesting restaurants and stores and you can also view the outside of the courthouse.

Things to do in Winchester TN Outside

• Golf:  There are four close-to Tims Ford golf courses within only a short drive from Winchester.  These range from the famous Bear Trace Tims Ford (Jack Nicklaus designed) in Tims Ford State Park, and the Sewanee Golf Course along with two others.
  
  
  There's also the Winchester TN Disc Golf Course located just a few minutes from downtown Winchester TN.
  
  
  
• Boating:  If you brought your own boat you're ahead of the pack.  Alternatively, many of the Tims Ford Lake marinas have boats to rent on Tims Ford Lake. Though its is often best to have a reservation for these in advance. Many of the marinas also rent standup paddleboards and kayaks.
  
  
  
• Hiking:  One of the things to do in Winchester TN is go hiking.  There are numerous hiking trails within Winchester or within just a short drive . This is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful nature that the area offers.

• Tims Ford State Park: Tims Ford State Park offers a little bit of everything from hiking trails along the water, to paved biking trails, camping, fishing, boat and kayak rentals and even an ice cream shop.  
  
  
  
• Winchester City Park is a nice place view the lake and enjoy the outdoors as well.

• Find a great restaurant:  There are numerous restaurants in Winchester TN. You can find one on the Winchester Square or just outside of the square.
  
  
• Movie Theater:  There's a beautiful historic Art Deco movie theater on the Winchester Square called the Oldham Theater. The theater opened for its first movie in 1950 (it was built by a gentleman named George Oldham). The current owners, Beth and Ray Rhoton, bought the theater in 2000 and have restored it to its former glory - though adding new seats and surround sound. It plays first run movies.

• Winchester Library:  The Library is just a few blocks off of the Winchester Square.  The historical society is located there as well to learn about the history of Winchester TN.
  
  
  
• High Score Arcade: High Score Arcade is a blast from the past with a store full of video games to play. They call themselves a "retro arcade & gaming lounge".
