Why Can't You Swim In Tims Ford Lake?  

I've seen quite a few blogs with text around swimming in Tims Ford Lake -- and some say you can't swim in Tims Ford Lake.  Though this is not correct.  Many people swim and participate in a variety of water and lake based activities in Tims Ford Lake.

Why Can't You Swim in Tims Ford State Park?

Tims Ford State Park has a wonderful and large swimming pool.  Unfortunately, the pool is 45 years old and as of Summer 2022, the swimming pool is closed due to declining usage and the increasing costs of upkeep.  

There is also a small lake on the Tims Ford State Park golf course -- you cannot swim in that either (for safety reasons).

There are a variety of places to go swimming in Tims Ford Lake -- though of course caution must be exercised since there are no lifeguards and the lake is very active with motorized boats.  A few of the best places to go for swimming on Tims Ford Lake include Dry Creek Beach which is a sand beach just outside of Winchester TN.  This beach has a blocked off area with buoys for swimming and water activities.

The other great area to go swimming in Tims Ford Lake are in one of the many fingers of the lake.  This would require you to have a boat or kayak to get there.  Boats can be rented from one of the Tims Ford Lake Marinas. 

If you look at the Tims Ford Lake Map below, you can see the larger portion of the lake, and the many smaller fingers that come off of it.  These fingers are typically more protected from the fast boats moving on the lake.  And thus a perfect place to hang out and enjoy the warm Tims Ford Lake water.  Make sure you have the proper floatation devices for safety as always.
