The City of Lynchburg TN had its first settlers in the area in the early 1800's though its somewhat unclear how Lynchburg got its name.  One theory is that some of the settlers in the late 1800s came from Lynchburg, VA and liked the name so much, they created one in TN.  

Another thought is that it was named after Tom Lynch who was the person who gave lashes to criminals.  And another though was that it was named after Judge Lynch, who presided over a vigilante committee that met in the city sometime after the War of 1812.

Regardless of the source of the name, the city of Lynchburg TN is a city in south central Tennessee who has become well known as the location of the Jack Daniels Distillery.

Is Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg TN Worth It?

We live just 20 minutes from the city of Lynchburg TN and always take new visitors to the Jack Daniel's tour.  I consistently enjoy the tour which is approximately an hour long and goes into the history of Jack Daniel and the distillery as well as how whiskey is made.  The tour guides have always been engaging and informational.    Make sure to make a reservation in advance as they do fill up especially on the weekends.

The drive from the city of Lynchburg TN to Nashville TN is approximately 74 miles and 90 minutes.  For this drive, this is without traffic.  If you are driving during rush hour (morning or evening) your drive could be considerably longer.  A more picturesque drive is not taking 24 south but taking 65 through Thompson's Station where you will drive through amazing country-land before arriving in Lynchburg.

Yes, Lynchburg Tennessee is a Dry County.   Despite the operational distillery, which is a major tourist attraction, Lynchburg's home county of Moore is a dry county.  From Wikipedia, While federal prohibition ended in 1933 with the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment, state prohibition laws remain in effect. All Tennessee counties are dry by default, though any county can become "wet" by passing a county-wide "local option" referendum. Moore County has yet to pass such a referendum.  

Despite this you are still allowed to sample Jack Daniels and purchase souvenir bottles at the distillery.  The law allows you to purchase alcoholic beverages if they are made on site.  There is also another distillery in the Lynchburg square that also serves.
